Over 50 Denton Area Clergy Meet to View and Discuss
the Passion of the Christ
Members of the media are invited to attend a discussion
that will be held this week by a unique gathering of
local clergy organized by Congregation Kol of Ami,
a Reform Jewish Congregation in Denton County.
Over fifty area clergy will be viewing Mel Gibson's The
Passion of the Christ and then gathering together
for a discussion of the film immediately after. "Given
all the controversy about the alleged anti-Semitism
of the film, I thought it would be good idea for
Jews and Christians to talk about the film face-to-face," said
Rabbi Geoffrey Dennis, who sent out invitations to
other clergy two weeks ago. "The response has
been overwhelming. I thought perhaps 10 or 12 people
would respond, but we've had to change our meeting
venue to accommodate the crowd."
Attending clergy come from across the Christian spectrum:
Roman Catholic, Episcopal, Disciples of Christ, Nazarene,
Church of Christ, Lutheran and Baptist congregations
will be among those represented.
The group will be viewing the film at Vista Ridge
Mall Cinema in Lewisville at 2:30 PM on Thursday the
26th and will then meet at the Courtyard by Marriott
at 2701 Lake Vista Drive immediately afterward for
an open discussion of the film, including its religious
message, potential impact on interfaith relations,
and any other controversial topics that may arise.
